Help Us Bring the UK’s First Family Centre to Wandsworth

Wandsworth Sensory Support Service cares for almost 1,000 children, young people and their families. We are recognised in the UK and internationally for our work with deaf, visually impaired and deafblind children. Our work with families is central to our success and our new ground-breaking Family Centre will allow us to work with more people, offering even greater levels of support.

The Family Centre  will be the first of its kind in the UK, fully equipped to meet the needs of families and their children, tackling the core issues faced by local families who have a child who is deaf and/or visually impaired, possibly with other complex disabilities; isolation, family breakdown and exhaustion.

Specialist staff will offer a listening, understanding ear, backed up with information and advice, ensuring families no longer feel alone. Training will be available and opportunities given to meet other families to share experiences.

The Centre will cost £1.2 million to build and, thanks to the generosity of many we have already raised £750,000. But time is running out - we still need to secure £450,000 by summer 2015.

Please help us meet our target. With your help we can make give families, and their children life-changing support. Follow the JustGiving Link to support our appeal:

We’re grateful to everyone who’s helped us get this far – the range of sponsored activities has been inspirational, from the creative including a pottery café and cake sale, to the challenges of sky diving, firewalking and river racing to the long distance endurance of the London to Brighton Bike Ride.

Get involved in one of our events – join us for wine tasting, run a marathon for us, or why not organise your own event? A car boot sale? Sponsored swim? Karaoke? You’ll have fun and made a big difference to young people and their families.
